Daisy Vakarathiwe Kambalame – A Visionary Leader in Business and Trade

At the helm of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) stands Ms. Daisy Vakarathiwe Kambalame as CEO, a seasoned development specialist with a formidable track record in international trade, economics and business development. Armed with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Malawi (Chancellor College) and a Master of Science in Business Economics from the University of Reading (UK), she blends academic experience with practical industry expertise.

Beyond her leadership at MCCCI, Kambalame serves as a Board Director for the Cotton Farmers Association (COFAM) and imparts knowledge as a part-time lecturer in Business Ethics. Her expertise ranges from corporate social responsibility, business planning, sustainable business practices, environmental awareness, and international relations—making her a force in shaping Malawi’s business landscape.

Dr. Bertha Bangara-Chikadza – A Leading Economist Shaping Policy and Academia

As the President of the Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malawi’s Department of Economics, Dr. Bertha Bangara-Chikadza is a powerhouse in economic thought leadership. Specializing in macroeconomics, she has dedicated her career to shaping policies that drive Malawi’s economic growth.

Her academic journey includes a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Cape Town, where she continues to contribute as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. Before joining the academia, she was an integral part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, further cementing her influence in policy-making. With a wealth of experience in both governance and research, Dr. Bangara-Chikadza is a leading voice in economic strategy and policy formulation.

Mayamiko Nkoloma – The Innovator Bridging Technology and Development

A visionary entrepreneur and academic, Mayamiko Nkoloma is the founder and CEO of iMoSyS, a pioneering technology company revolutionizing Malawi’s digital landscape. In addition to leading iMoSyS, he is a full-time lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and a lead consultant for the Ministry of Health’s NTP project.

Nkoloma holds a Master of Science in Wireless Communication Systems from the University of Sheffield and is currently pursuing a PhD in Innovation and Development at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). His groundbreaking projects, including TB eHealth Development for Community Intervention and a Water Management System for Malawi, showcase his commitment to using technology as a tool for national progress.

About James Kaphale:

James Chiku Kaphale is a Lawyer, Administrator and Academician. Until recently, he was the Executive Director for Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) where he was regulating competition of trade in goods and services in Malawi. Previously he worked as Director of Legal Services at Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Director of Corporate Services and Administration at Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) and Director of Administration and Company Secretary for ADMARC Limited.

He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree majoring in Commercial Law from University of Minnesota in USA, an Executive Master of Communications Management (EMCM) from Buckinghamshire New University in United Kingdom, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from University of Malawi and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from Chancellor College in Zomba.

Currently, he is finalizing a PhD in Public Administration and Management at University of Malawi. He lectures Commercial Law and Labour Law at Catholic University of Malawi.

The Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) is set to host a webinar on Thursday, 11th April, 2024 that dives into the role of storytelling.

The webinar will be facilitated by Bongani Chinkanda, who will make a presentation on how marketers can craft compelling narratives to drive integrated brand experiences.

Get to Know Bongani:

Born and raised in Malawi, Bongani Chinkanda was schooled in Harare, Zimbabwe before completing a degree at Rhodes University in Grahamstown.

Bongani is a strong believer in solving client business problems, specializing in the youth and mass markets, and is passionate about bringing big ideas to the people. He has a passion for developing entrepreneurs and leaders in the Creative Economy.

Bongani worked in trade and shopper marketing for companies including: Unilever, BP, Kraft Foods and Kimberly Clark from 2003 until 2008 before embarking on a career in advertising. He founded Dzuwa Media in 2008 to serve as a promotional goods supplier to the Malawian and Zimbabwean markets, growing into a brand activations agency with a mass market focus that included work in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa in 2010. Their blue chip clients included SAB, Colgate and Hollard.

In 2016, they merged with Stretch Marketing, now Elevator, to further extend their middle and mass market offering. In joining HDI Youth Marketeers in November 2017, Bongani’s dream of “African Brand Stories” was reignited through the growth of HDI’s collective. This passion has led to HDI expanding its presence in 2 more markets (Zimbabwe & Ghana) adding to Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda. In May 2020, inspired by his entrepreneurial hunger, he transitioned from being CEO of HDI to Founder of Diaries of a Salesman & Managing Director of Bravado, A Brave Group Company.

About Tshepang Makofane

Tshepang holds a bachelors’ degree in Information Design (University of Pretoria), a post-grad Honours degree in Marketing management and Business management (UNISA).

Tshepang has over 10 years of strategy and marketing experience in the consultancy and advertising agency world. Tshepang’s breadth of experience includes consumer research and insights, segmentation development, marketing strategy, shopper-retail strategy and FMCG strategy. He has lead cross-functional teams and serviced brands such as: Samsung Africa, Vodacom, Pick ‘n’ Pay, First National Bank, Coca-Cola, Universal Music Group, Trace and more.
