Specializing in macroeconomics, she has dedicated her career to shaping policies that drive Malawi’s economic growth.

Her academic journey includes a Doctorate in Economics from the University of Cape Town, where she continues to contribute as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. Before joining the academia, she was an integral part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, further cementing her influence in policy-making. With a wealth of experience in both governance and research, Dr. Bangara-Chikadza is a leading voice in economic strategy and policy formulation.

Mayamiko Nkoloma – The Innovator Bridging Technology and Development

A visionary entrepreneur and academic, Mayamiko Nkoloma is the founder and CEO of iMoSyS, a pioneering technology company revolutionizing Malawi’s digital landscape. In addition to leading iMoSyS, he is a full-time lecturer at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and a lead consultant for the Ministry of Health’s NTP project.

Nkoloma holds a Master of Science in Wireless Communication Systems from the University of Sheffield and is currently pursuing a PhD in Innovation and Development at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). His groundbreaking projects, including TB eHealth Development for Community Intervention and a Water Management System for Malawi, showcase his commitment to using technology as a tool for national progress.

About James Kaphale:

James Chiku Kaphale is a Lawyer, Administrator and Academician. Until recently, he was the Executive Director for Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) where he was regulating competition of trade in goods and services in Malawi. Previously he worked as Director of Legal Services at Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Director of Corporate Services and Administration at Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) and Director of Administration and Company Secretary for ADMARC Limited.

He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree majoring in Commercial Law from University of Minnesota in USA, an Executive Master of Communications Management (EMCM) from Buckinghamshire New University in United Kingdom, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree from University of Malawi and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) Degree from Chancellor College in Zomba.

Currently, he is finalizing a PhD in Public Administration and Management at University of Malawi. He lectures Commercial Law and Labour Law at Catholic University of Malawi.

The Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) is set to host a webinar on Thursday, 11th April, 2024 that dives into the role of storytelling.

The webinar will be facilitated by Bongani Chinkanda, who will make a presentation on how marketers can craft compelling narratives to drive integrated brand experiences.

Get to Know Bongani:

Born and raised in Malawi, Bongani Chinkanda was schooled in Harare, Zimbabwe before completing a degree at Rhodes University in Grahamstown.

Bongani is a strong believer in solving client business problems, specializing in the youth and mass markets, and is passionate about bringing big ideas to the people. He has a passion for developing entrepreneurs and leaders in the Creative Economy.

Bongani worked in trade and shopper marketing for companies including: Unilever, BP, Kraft Foods and Kimberly Clark from 2003 until 2008 before embarking on a career in advertising. He founded Dzuwa Media in 2008 to serve as a promotional goods supplier to the Malawian and Zimbabwean markets, growing into a brand activations agency with a mass market focus that included work in Namibia, Botswana and South Africa in 2010. Their blue chip clients included SAB, Colgate and Hollard.

In 2016, they merged with Stretch Marketing, now Elevator, to further extend their middle and mass market offering. In joining HDI Youth Marketeers in November 2017, Bongani’s dream of “African Brand Stories” was reignited through the growth of HDI’s collective. This passion has led to HDI expanding its presence in 2 more markets (Zimbabwe & Ghana) adding to Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda. In May 2020, inspired by his entrepreneurial hunger, he transitioned from being CEO of HDI to Founder of Diaries of a Salesman & Managing Director of Bravado, A Brave Group Company.

About Tshepang Makofane

Tshepang holds a bachelors’ degree in Information Design (University of Pretoria), a post-grad Honours degree in Marketing management and Business management (UNISA).

Tshepang has over 10 years of strategy and marketing experience in the consultancy and advertising agency world. Tshepang’s breadth of experience includes consumer research and insights, segmentation development, marketing strategy, shopper-retail strategy and FMCG strategy. The Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) has entered into partnership with the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe (MAZ) to offer digital marketing courses for both professional marketers and executives in the quest to equip Malawian marketers with international level skills needed to thrive and compete on global level.

The training will offer courses at two levels, namely: The Professional Certificate in Digital Marketing (PCDM) and the Executive Certificate in Digital Marketing (ECDM).

The PCDM program targets to train those who are involved in the actual marketing work while the ECDM program is designed to equip senior executives/managers with an appreciation of activities and roles of Digital Marketing professionals and the strategic aspects.

Specifically, participants will acquire skills in the following areas:

Professional Certificate in Digital Marketing Course (PCDM)

  1. Digital Marketing Overview
  2. Content Marketing
  3. Websites and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  4. E-commerce
  5. Social Media Marketing
  6. Email marketing
  7. Mobile marketing
  8. Digital Ads (Paid, Search, Display & Video Ads)
  9. Digital Marketing Analytics
  10. Digital Marketing Strategy and Transformation

Executive Certificate in Digital Marketing (ECDM)

  1. Fundamentals of Digital Marketing.
  2. Sources of Value in Digital Marketing
  3. Overview of Digital Marketing Channels
  4. Social Media for Executives.
  5. Marketing and Customer Analytics
  6. Digital Marketing Strategy
  7. MarkTech and the future marketing
  8. Digital Transformation in Marketing

The PCDM is a six months course while the ECDM is an 8 weeks course and both will run from October 5, 2021. Registration is currently in progress and deadline is 30th September 2021. The mode of delivery for both courses will be via Zoom to adhere to Covid-19 guideline and to ensure flexibility and convenience to the targeted participants.

Classes are flexible as delivered via zoom from 6:00 to 8:00pm either Tuesday or Wednesdays. Students will be at liberty to choose time that is convenient to them. However, Necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the courses and examinations are conducted in accordance with the set and agreed standards.

Those eligible to the enroll for the PCDM include marketing and sales personnel, brand managers, key account managers, customer service personnel, entrepreneurs, people in business, even those with a basic education qualification can be accepted to prepare them for industry.

The course is the leading professional Digital Marketing qualification currently being offered in Zimbabwe and is attracting participants from other countries like Zambia and the UK, making it globally recognizable.

It is the observation of the IMM that most companies are currently shifting their marketing budgets from Offline to Online owing to the fact that Digital Marketing is more targeted and segmented to specific customers hence it is fast becoming a Key Result Area for marketers. That is the reason IMM decided to respond by introducing the courses.

IMM shall continue to monitor regional marketing trends and respond accordingly. The collaboration with MAZ demonstrates IMM’s thrust to build partnerships with other regional marketing bodies in order to fully equip Malawian marketers with up-to-date global skills.

IMM therefore encourages Malawians to enroll and participate in these courses as our goal is to empower the Malawian marketer to thrive and compete with their international counterparts.
